Separation of inorganic selenium species on anion-exchange resins

Abstract

Preconcentration and separation of inorganic selenium (SeIV and SeVI) in water samples was investigated using several anion-exchange resins. The best separation was obtained with the functionalized cellulose sorbent Cellex T. SeIV and SeVI adsorbed on the resin were eluted with 10 ml of 0.01 mol l–1 HNO3 and 7 ml of 4 mol l–1 HNO3, respectively, and determined by electrothermal atomization atomic absorption spectrometry. The detection limit for SeIV is 2.1 g l–1 and for SeVI 2.4 µg l–1.
