Characteristics of sodium-selective electrodes based on a triethylester monoacid derivative of p-tert-butylcalix[4]arene
Abstract
The selectivity coefficients for alkali and alkaline earth cations for a sodium-selective electrode based on a triethylester monoacid derivative of p-tert-butylcalix[4]arene are reported, along with other characteristics. A mechanism involving the release of a proton by the triethylester monoacid on complexation with a sodium ion is proposed as a means of maintaining electroneutrality in the membrane, in contrast with the tetraethyl ester ligand, where complexation is accompanied by anion uptake from the sample.
