Dalton communications. Organometallic liquid crystals based on octahedral rhodium(III)

Abstract

Reaction of mesomorphic alkynes with [RhMe(PMe3)4] led to the RhIII complexes mer,trans-[RhH(alkynyl)2(PMe3)3] which are liquid crystalline; they are rare examples of rod-like liquid crystals based on an octahedral metal centre and represent a unique homologous series of mesomorphic metal complexes containing a hydrido function.
