29Si solid-state NMR study of the surface structure of aerosil silica

Abstract

Quantitative data have been obtained on the surface structure of pyrogenic silica with a hydroxy group coating by solid-state 29Si NMR. Considerations presented include the existence of intraglobular hydroxy groups, the thermal stability of silanediol population and the possibility of the existence of silanetriol groups. NMR spectra of crystalline specimens of polysilicic acid are also considered.
