A new, selective method for conversion of alcohols to vicinal fluorohydrins

Abstract

Aryl–alkyl substituted tertiary alcohols are efficiently converted directly to vicinal fluorohydrins in high yield by reaction with 1-chloromethyl-4-fluoro-1,4-diazobicyclo[2.2.2]octane bis(tetrafluoroborate)(SelectfluorTM F-Teda BF4) in acetonitrile solution.
