Study by ultraviolet–visible derivative spectrophotometry of some antibiotics. Part I. Molecular interactions of benzylpenicillin in aqueous solution

Abstract

The effect of concentration on the characteristics of the ultraviolet–visible (UV/VIS) absorption spectra of benzylpenicillin sodium in aqueous solutions was studied. In order to separate the overlapped bands, derivative spectrophotometry was used. The UV–VIS spectral behaviour in three concentration ranges was distinguished, and was confirmed by spectrofluorimetric, specific viscosity and surface tension measurements.
