Surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy of 9-phenylacridine on silver sol

Abstract

Surface-enhanced Raman scattering of adsorbed 9-phenylacridine and 9-phenylacridinium ion in silver sol is reported and compared with the ordinary Raman spectra of corresponding solid and solution species. The changes in frequency and relative intensity of 9-phenylacridine bands on adsorption are consistent with 9-phenylacridine adsorption via its nitrogen lone pair of electrons. 9-Phenylacridinium ion was found to adsorb as the 9-phenylacridinium–chloride ion pair through the chloride ion.
