Synthesis and reactivity of a new intermetallic compound: Na4Sn

The synthesis, crystallographic characterization and some preliminary reactivity (with main group elements and halides) of a new intermetallic phase, Na4Sn, is reported and represents the first confirmation of an intermetallic compound of an alkali metal and group 14 element having a formal charge of –4.
