Bound water in aged molybdate/alumina hydrodesulfurisation catalysts: an inelastic neutron scattering study
Abstract
Adsorbed water facilitates sulfidation of oxidic molybdate/alumina catalysts. The mode of binding and the role of water in the catalyst has been investigated by an inelastic neutron scattering (INS) study of the librational modes of the bound water. Water is adsorbed associatively at molybdenum centres in calcined molybdate/alumina. The role of the adsorbed water in aiding sulfidation is discussed.
