Translational energy dependence of the reactive cross-section of the C + NO → CN + O reaction studied in pulsed, crossed, supersonic molecular beams

Abstract

The C(3PJ)+ NO(X 2Πr)→ CN(X 2Σ+)+ O(3PJ) reaction is studied using combined pulsed lasers and pulsed, crossed, supersonic molecular beams. The relative reactive cross-section is found to decrease slowly in the relative translational energy domain sampled, εtr= 0.038 – 0.163 eV (1 eV ≈ 1.602 18 × 10–19 J), with a dependence that can be fitted to a (εtr)–1/3 functionality.
