Preparation and X-ray structures of tridentate (N,N,S) complexes of the diazene trarts-[PhSNC(4-MeC6H4)N[double bond, length half m-dash]NC(4-MeC6H4)NSPh] with platinum and palladium

Abstract

The reaction of trans-[PhSNC(MeC6H4)N[double bond, length half m-dash]NC(MeC6H4)NSPh] with (C2H4)Pt(PPh3)2 or Pd(PPh3)4 in toluene produces the complexes M{PhSNC(MeC6H4)N-NC(MeC6H4)NSPh}(PPh3)(M [double bond, length half m-dash] Pt, Pd) in which the ligand is bonded to the metal in a tridentate (N,N,S) fashion and the diazine is formally reduced to an azine.
