Electron-transfer-catalysed carbonyl substitution in [(arene)Mn(CO)3]+ complexes

Abstract

Electrochemical reduction of [(arene)Mn(CO)3]+ in the presence of tertiary phosphites or phosphines (L) produces [(arene)Mn(CO)2L]+via electron-transfer catalysis; [(mesitylene)Re(CO)3]+ is reduced in a two-electron chemically reversible step and does not undergo ligand substitution.
