Reaction of [Ru(PCy3)2(H2)Hl] with K(tpb) or Tl(tdmpb) affords the molecular hydrogen complexes [Ru(η3-L)(PCy3)(H2)H](L = tpb or tdmpb), via the intermediates trans-[Ru(η2-L)(PCy3)2(H2)H]; protonation of [Ru(tpb)(PCy3)(H2)H] with HBF4·Et2O leads to the cationic aquo-dihydrogen complex [Ru(tpb)(PCy3)(OH2)(H2)]BF4.
