A method for the detection of pyrethroid insecticides by thin-layer chromatography is described. These insecticides, on bromination and treatment with o-tolidine, yield an intensely blue product. Some of the pyrethroids can be resolved into individual isomers by this method. The limit of detection is 0.25–1.0 µg.
