Photochemical reactions of 9-(ω-anilinoalkyl)-10-bromophenanthrenes

Abstract

Irradiation of the title compounds Ar(CH2)nNHPh (Ar = 10-bromo-9-phenanthryl, n= 3, 4, 5, 6, 10) gave debrominated aniline derivatives in all cases. For n= 3 and 4, the cyclic compounds 4a,b were isolated in moderate yields. A photo-induced electron-transfer mechanism is proposed.
