Threshold frequency for the ionic screening of electric fields in electrolyte solutions
Abstract
The screening of electric fields in ionic solutions is studied. Two methods for the direct evaluation of the Maxwell frequency for a series of aqueous solutions of electrolytes are studied. The results confirm that the expression for the Maxwell threshold frequency also holds for electrolyte solutions. Attention is drawn to the importance of considering the existence of a threshold frequency when dealing with charged macromolecules, enzyme reactions and any other problem when mobile charges interact in an electrolyte solution.
