Azido and dimethylamino derivatives of tellurium hexafluoride
Abstract
It has been established by 19F NMR spectroscopy that TeF6 and Me3SiX (X = N3 or NMe2) react to form compounds TeFnX6 –n(n= 1–5). Reaction of TeF6 with Me3SiNMe2 in a 1 : 2 ratio gave a mixture of TeF5(NMe2), cis-TeF4(NMe2)2 and fac-TeF3(NMe2)3. With a 1 : 4 ratio, TeF4(NMe2)2(both isomers), TeF2(NMe2)4(both isomers) and TeF(NMe2)5 were obtained. Reaction of TeF6 with Me3SiN3 in a 1 : 1 ratio gave TeF5(N3) and cis-TeF4(N3)2 as the major components with minute quantities of trans-TeF4(N3)2 and fac-TeF3(N3)3. A 1 : 2 reaction initially led to all members of the series except mer-TeF3(N3)3, with TeF5(N3) and trans-TeF4(N3)2 gradually disappearing. An unidentified tellurium(IV) species appeared in both of the azide reactions and often obscured the signal due to cis-TeF2(N3)4. With azide ion, TeF6 gave [TeF5]–, [TeF7]– and nitrogen.
