Double deprotonation, ring-opening and C–C bond formation in a coordinated crown thioether. Formation and structure of an areneruthenium(II) ethenethiolate, [Ru(SCH[double bond, length half m-dash]CH2)(η6-C6Me5CH2CH2CH2SCH2CH2S)]

Abstract

Treatment of [Ru(η6-C6Me6)([9]aneS3)](PF6)2([9]aneS3= 1,4,7-trithiacyclononane) with an excess of potassium tert-butoxide gives an η1-S-bonded ethenethiolate complex, [[graphic omitted])], which is characterised by single crystal X-ray analysis; it is formed as a result of deprotonation at two of the methylene carbon atoms of [9]aneS3 and cleavage of two C–S bonds, followed by deprotonation at one of the C6Me6 methyl groups.
