The utility of (C5Me5)2Sm in isolating crystallographically characterizable zintl ions. X-Ray crystal structure of a complex of (Sb3)3–

Abstract

(C5Me5)2Sm reacts with Sb(Bun)3 in toluene to from [(C5Me5)2Sm]3(µ-η221-Sb3)(thf)(thf = tetrahydrofuran), which contains a bent (Sb3)3– ion [114.5(1)°] with an average Sb–Sb distance of 2.688(1)Å.
