Intermolecular hydrogen bonding to transition metal centres; infrared spectroscopic evidence for O–H ⋯ Ir bonding between [(η5-C5Me5)Ir(CO)2] and fluoroalcohols in solution at room temperature
Abstract
IR spectra in the ν(C–O) and ν(O–H) regions provide strong evidence for intermolecular H-bonding to the iridium centre of [cp*Ir(CO)2](cp*=η5-C5Me5) from sterically crowded perfluoroalcohols, e.g.(C3F7)(CF3)2COH and (CF3)2CHOH; the interactions are sufficiently strong, ΔH°=–26 to –28 kJ mol–1, to be observed at room temperature in n-heptane solution.
