Preparation and second-harmonic generation properties of tris(pyrocatecholato)stannate(IV) compounds

Abstract

The non-linear optical properties of a wide range of tris(pyrocatecholato)stannate(IV) compounds have been tested at 1064 nm and 1.9 µm. A number of them were found to have second-harmonic generation (SHG) effects, especially bis(triethylammonium) tris(4-nitropyrocatecholato-O,O′)stannate(IV), which has an SHG effect of 1.33 × urea. The solid-state structure of this compound was then determined by single-crystal X-ray crystallography. This shows that the tin catecholate complex crystallizes in the space group Pbca and has the anticipated octahedral geometry.
