Thermal and electrical conduction studies on polypyrrole tetracyanoplatinate

Abstract

Polypyrrole tetracyanoplatinate [PPPt(CN)4] has been prepared by the electrochemical polymerisation of pyrrole in aqueous K2Pt(CN)4. The polymer behaved as a semiconductor with a room-temperature conductivity of 17 S cm–1 and an activation energy of 9 meV between 270 and 110 K.

The polymer films were exceptionally tough and exhibited good thermal stability. Films exhibited conductivities of 10–3 S cm–1 after heating in air to 310 °C and 10–2 S cm–1 after heating in argon to 550 °C.
