Spin effects on spur kinetics: independent pairs modelling of two-species spurs

Abstract

The importance of spin in the kinetics of combination of radical species in radiation-induced spurs has been investigated for a variety of limiting cases which permit analytic or numerical solutions. Two-pair spurs containing two differing pairs are studied in detail. For spurs in which the initial spin corrlation is retained and the spurs remain singlet overall, the time dependence of the product formation is examined and is found to be somewhat insensitive to the spin model; however, the amount of reaction and the ratios of the products depend strongly upon the spin model used.
