Novel stannosilicates. Part 2. Cation-exchange studies

Abstract

The ion-exchange properties of a novel sodium stannosilicate Na13.5Sn10Si15O36(OH)5·13.5H2O have been studied for the replacement of Na+ by Li+, K+, Tl+, Ag+, NH4+, Mg2+, Ca2+, Sr2+, Ba2+ and Zn2+. Thermodynamic parameters have been calculated from isotherm data, and lead to a general conclusion that the exchanges were of zeolite character and that the stannosilicate behave as a microporous solid with heteroenergetic exchange sites.
