Mechanisms of methylene blue electrode processes studied by in situ electron paramagnetic resonance and ultraviolet–visible spectroelectrochemistry

Abstract

The redox process of methylene blue has been studied using thin-layer cyclic voltammetry, UV–VIS spectroelectrochemical techniques and in situ EPR. In situ EPR measurements provide direct evidence for the formation of a methylene blue cation radical. The electrode mechanism for methylene blue is discussed.
