Kinetics for the surface-controlled dissolution of a powder dispersion with a log-normal distribution in particle size

Abstract

A model has been developed describing the kinetics of a simple surface-controlled dissolution reaction involving a powder dispersion with a log-normal (log-Gaussian) distribution in particle size. The model was then used to analyse previously published kinetic data on the dissolution of a polydispersed powder suspension. The results of this analysis allowed the calculation of the relative volume (%)vs. particle diameter for the powder and this compared favourably with the plot of the experimentally determined results.
