Electrocatalytic reduction of nitrous oxide to dinitrogen at a mercury electrode using niii complexes of macrocyclic polyamines

Abstract

Reduction of N2O takes place efficiently at a Hg electode to give only N2 in yields close to 100% in the presence of a small amount of a NiII complex of [15 or 14]aneN4{[15 or 14]aneN4 = 1,4,8,12(or 11)-tetra-azacyclopenta(or tetra)decane} in aqueous solution.
