t-Butyl chloride and 2-chloro-2-methyl-1-phenylpropane reacted with Ph2Pā€“ ions under irradiation to give reduction and substitution products and 6-chloro-6-methylhept-1-ene (used as a radical probe) recated to give the cyclized substitution product. The bromides gave only elimination products
