Matrix effects from magnesium and lithium in inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry
Abstract
Matrix effects of Mg and Li on the net line intensity of the atomic and ionic lines of several elements (Zn, Cu, Ni, Cr, Mn, V, Co, Cd and Sr) were studied in an argon inductively coupled plasma. The effects of the carrier gas flow-rate and the concentration of the Mg matrix on the analyte emission were measured. The magnitude of the matrix effect depends on the carrier gas flow-rate. The measured ionic and atomic line enhancements were tested against approximations developed for an argon d.c. plasma jet.
