Enthalpies of interaction of some alkali-metal halides with N-methylacetamide and with N, N-dimethylformamide in water at 25 °C

Abstract

The results are presented of a study of the enthalpies of interaction of N-methylacetamide and N, N-dimethylformamide with the salts LiCl, CsCl, KF, KBr and KI in aqueous solutions at 25 °C. The results obtained correlate well with the tendecies of the ions to disrupt protein structures. It is suggested that this arises largely from the effects of differential solvation of the ions and the amides.
