Biosynthesis of vitamin B12: synthesis and peripheral C-methylation of pyrrocorphins carrying ester side chains

Abstract

Conditions are developed which allow the preparation of pyrrocorphins from dihydroisobacteriochlorins carrying acetate and propionate side chains; the corresponding zinc(II) pyrrocorphinates are peripherally C-methylated and the structures of the products are established.
