Ruthenium dioxide hydrate: is it a hydrogen catalyst?
Abstract
RuO2·xH2O needs to be reduced quite substantially before it can function as a hydrogen catalyst; without reduction, RuO2·xH2O is a strong oxidant, capable of oxidising MV+˙, I–, Br–, Cl–, Ru(bpy)32+, and Fe(phen)32+(bpy = 2,2′-bipyridine and phen = 1,10-phenanthroline).
