The partial synthesis of 4-epi-trachylobagibberellin A12, starting from the natural diterpene trachinodiol (ent-7α,18-dihydroxytrachylobane) is reported. The stereospecific ring B contraction was carried out by treatment of a bromohydrin with silver oxide. The structure of a monoester of this gibberellin analogue was determined by X-ray analysis.
