Kinetics of β-hydroxyl elimination from [(H2O)mCuIICH2C(CH3)2Oh]+ in aqueous solution. A pulse-radiolysis Study

Abstract

The reaction of ˙CH2C(CH3)2OH with Cuaq+ yields the short-lived transient complex [CuIICH2C(CH3)2OH]aq+. The spectrum of the latter complex is reported. [CuIICH2C(CH3)2OH]aq+ decomposes into Cuaq++ CH2[double bond, length as m-dash]C(CH3)2+OH. The specific rate of this reaction is 5.0 × 104+ 8.6 × 107[H3O+] S–1. The kinetics are discussed in comparison with those of analogous reactions reported earlier.
