Modes of enhancement of physical adsorption of nitrogen and water vapour on metal oxides

Abstract

A comparison of hydrogen chemisorption and physical adsorption on CoxFe3–xO4 gives information of the mode of specific interactions which enhance physical adsorption. It is notable that 1–2 N2 and 3–5 H2O molecules are adsorbed per exposed cation–anion surface pair, enhancing their adsorption to an extent which varied with x.
