Syntheses and reactivity of acetylide-containing clusters of Group 1B metals. Stepwise syntheses of trinuclear [Au2Cu(C2Ph)4] and pentanuclear [Au3Cu2(C2Ph)6] and [Au3Ag2(C2Ph)6] clusters

Abstract

The pentanuclear cluster [Au3Cu2(C2Ph)6] was obtained from the reaction between [{Au(C2Ph)}n] and a mixture of [Au(C2Ph)2] and [{Cu(C2Ph)}n]. Its structure is described. The same cluster has been synthesized in a stepwise manner starting with [Au(C2Ph)2] through the binuclear complex [Au2(C2Ph)3] and the trinuclear cluster [Au2Cu(C2Ph)4]. The synthesis of the analogous gold–silver cluster [Au3Ag2(C2Ph)6] was achieved by a slightly modified method.
