Phosphorus-31 nuclear magnetic resonance studies on 15N-labelled [Pt(S2N2)(PR3)2](PR3= PMe3, PEt3, PPh3, PMe2Ph, or ½Ph2PCH2CH2PPh2), and investigation into its protonation

Abstract

99% Nitrogen-15-enriched (S3N2Cl)Cl and S4N3Cl can be used to prepare enriched samples of [Pt(S2N2)(PR3)2](1; PR3= PMe3, PEt3, PPh3, PMe2Ph, or ½Ph2PCH2CH2PPh2) in which both 2J and 4J(15N–31P) couplings are observed. Phosphorus-31 n.m.r. spectroscopy provides information on the degree of protonation of mixtures of (1) and [Pt(S2N2H)(PR3)2]X (X = Cl, BF4, or PF6) and reveals the protonated Pt compounds to be stronger acids than their Pd analogues.
