Cation-exchanged synthetic saponite as a ‘heat-stable’ acidic clay catalyst
Abstract
A cation-exchanged synthetic saponite, Mn+y(Mg3)oct.(Si4–xAlx)tet. O10(OH)2(interlayer cation; Mn+= Al3+, Zr4+, Ti4+, etc.), has a large surface area at high temperatures and a high catalytic activity as a solid acid due to its ‘card-house structure’.
