Photolysis of ReO2(CH2CMe3)3 in pyridine gives the alkylidene complex ReO2[C(H)CMe3](CH2CMe3) in 76% yield; an X-ray crystallographic study shows ReO2[C(H)CMe3](CH2CMe3) has a distorted tetrahedral structure.
