The first square-pyramidal cluster in the cobalt subgroup: synthesis and structural characterization of the iridium complex [Ir5(CO)8(µ-CO)2(η5-C5Me5)(µ4-PPh)]
Abstract
Deprotonation of [Ir4(CO)11PPhH2] in the presence of [M(η5-C5Me5)(MeCN)3][SbF6]2(M = Rh or Ir) affords the pentanuclear species [MIr4(CO)10(η5-C5Me5)(µ4-PPh)] in high yield; the penta-iridium derivative has been shown by an X-ray crystallographic study to possess an unprecedented square-pyramidal arrangement of Ir atoms supported by the phosphinidene ligand.
