Influence of surfactants on the gasoline-water emulsion. Polarography of lead and the determination of lead in gasoline

Abstract

The polarographic behaviour of lead in gasoline-water emulsions with the surfactants LBH, TMN-6 and TMN-10 has been studied. The polarographic process is reversible and is controlled by diffusion. The adsorption on the dropping-mercury electrode is always higher in the emulsified medium than in the aqueous surfactant medium. Lead in gasoline was determined by means of emulsion formation, using emulsified aqueous standards or aqueous standard additions.
