Reactions of bis[dimethyl(vinyl)silyl]bis(trimethylsilyl)methane, (Me3Si)2C(SiMe2CHCH2)2
Abstract
The compound (Me3Si)2C(SiMe2CHCH2)2(1) reacts in CCl4 with halogens X2 where X = Cl, Br, or I, to give the corresponding (Me3Si)2C(SiMe2X)2 species, and with ICl to give (Me3Si)2C(SiMe2Cl)2; the reaction with Br2 apparently initially gives addition products, which decompose on work-up. Reaction with AlCl3 in CCl4 gives (Me3Si)nC(SiMe2Cl)4 –n(n= 0–2) species. The reaction with CF3CO2H at 60 °C gives initially (Me3Si)2C(SiMe2CHCH2)(SiMe2O2CCF3), which subsequently reacts ca. 20 times as slowly to give (Me3Si)2C(SiMe2O2CCF3)2. There is no indication that the proximity of one vinyl group affects the reactivity at the other in these reactions of (1).
