Preparation and n.m.r. spectra of some hydrazono-malonates and -crotonates

Abstract

Treatment of the Meldrum's acid derivative (4) with dilute sodium methoxide solution gives the malonate half-esters (5) which may be alkylated to the diester (6), or decarboxylated to give the E and Z crotonates (7a) and (7b). The n.m.r. spectra (1H, 13C and variable-temperature 1H) of these derivatives are discussed in detail.
