Fluoride interference on the boron inductively coupled plasma atomic emission in methanolic solutions

Abstract

Fluoride ions greatly diminish the plasma atomic emission of boron in methanolic solutions. This effect is caused by the replacement of B–O bonds by B–F bonds when the fluoride concentration is increased in the solution. This replacement of bonds diminishes the volatility of boron, and hence the analyte transport efficiency. The presence of elements that form stable complexes with fluoride reduces the interference.
