Coupled 13C longitudinal and transverse magnetic relaxation in micellar and non-micellar sodium octanoate
Abstract
Coupled 13C longitudinal (R1) and transverse (R2) relaxation rates of the CH2-2 group in sodium octanoate have been studied at 20.1, 75.5 and 125.7 MHz. In the non-micellar state there is little cross-correlation between the C—H bonds, but in the micelle cross-correlation is strongly positive. Values of R1, R2 and nuclear Overhauser enhancements can all be interpreted in terms of the simple two-step correlation function proposed by B. Lindman and co-workers. An exchange effect on R2 due to acid–salt exchange was detected.
