Simultaneous determination of beryllium and magnesium with 1-hydroxy-2-carboxyanthraquinone by first-derivative spectrophotometry

Abstract

A method for the simultaneous determination of beryllium and magnesium in mixtures by first-derivative spectrophotometry is described. The method is based on the coloured complexes that both beryllium and magnesium form with 1-hydroxy-2-carboxyanthraquinone and is valid for concentrations between 0.04 and 0.4 µg ml–1 of beryllium and between 0.1 and 1.5 µg ml–1 of magnesium.
