Identification of divalent sulphur compounds by an enthalpimetric approach to the iodine-azide reaction
Abstract
The heat of oxidation of azide by iodine (344 ± 6 kJ mol–1 of azide) and the catalytic index of thiols and some other compounds (defined as the number of moles of azide converted to nitrogen by iodine per mole of sulphur compound) have been determined by direct injection enthalpimetry. The relationship between the catalytic index and structure can be used for the identification of divalent sulphur compounds.
