Reactive scattering of a supersonic chlorine atom beam. Cl + CD3OD
Abstract
Reactive scattering of Cl atoms with CD3OD molecules has been studied at an initial translational energy E= 51 kJ mol–1, using a supersonic beam of Cl atoms seeded in He buffer gas. Laboratory angular and velocity distributions of DCl product have been measured which show scattering peaking in the forward direction, but with substantial intensity over the full angular range. The product translational energy is approximately equal to the reactant translational energy though it has a broader distribution. An extended spectator stripping model is invoked to interpret these attributes of the reactive scattering.
