Kinetics of the β-hydroxy elimination reactions from the protoporphyrin iron(III)–CHRCH2OH complexes in aqueous solutions. A pulse-radiolytic study
Abstract
The free radicals ˙CH2CH2OH and ˙CH(CH3)CH2OH react with iron(II)protoporphyrin, FeIIPP, to form the transient complexes (PP)FeIII—CHRCH2OH. The spectra of these complexes are reported. The transient complexes decompose in a first-order process via the reaction (PP)FeIII—CHRCH2OH → FeIIIPP + OH–+ CH2CHR. The specific rates of the latter reactions are 80 and 40 s–1 for the two systems, respectively. The results are compared with those for analogous processes.
