Salt and cosolvent effects on the sulphite–hexacyanoferrate(III) reaction
Abstract
The rate of the reaction between sulphite and hexacyanoferrate(III) ions has beer measured in several concentrated salt solutions and in several isodielectric water–solvent mixtures. The association constants of the sodium sulphite and the sodium hexacyanoferrate(III) ion pairs have also been measured in these mixtures. The sequence of the association constants is not the same as for the rate constant. The results are explained in terms of solute–solvent interactions.
